Building Blocks Language & Learning is a unique educational program in Lodi for children of all abilities, ages 18 months - 5 years. We emphasize language, social skills and preschool readiness skills in a fun, caring atmosphere so it is a positive, successful experience.

Language skills are the foundation for success in school. Social skills, reading, writing, and even math are based on the ability to understand and use verbal and non-verbal language effectively. At Building Blocks, we look at each child as an individual, and help them develop language skills to the best of their abilities.

Our Mission
The main goal of Building Blocks is to help each child develop new skills, especially in the areas of speech, language, literacy and social skills. In our supportive setting, children are encouraged to communicate with other children and teachers to the best of their abilities.

Children
We want Building Blocks to be a fun group for all children. Because the program is led by a Speech Therapist, we encourage children of all abilities to participate. We are able to individualize the program for children at different levels due to the small class size.

Sessions
Each 2-hour session will have small groups and individual exploration. Many opportunities are provided during each session:

• Group Time. Each session will start and end with small group time. We will sing songs, learn fun fingerplays, listen to stories, and talk about our day. Children will have the opportunity to develop skills such as rhyming, playing with words and sounds, speaking in a group, and listening & following directions.


• Play. This is a vital part of language and learning for all children. Play helps children develop cognitive and problem solving skills, social skills, fine motor skills, and creativity. We include many different types of play opportunities: dramatic play, arts & crafts, block play, music and singing, fine motor play.


• Social Skills. This is a great opportunity for your child to learn to build and maintain friendships! We emphasize turn-taking, sharing, and communication between children as well as between children and adults.


• Readiness Skills. Children will be given opportunities during each session to increase readiness for reading, writing and math. Structured and unstructured activities are provided to let children experience that learning is fun!


• Fine Motor Skills. We use the Handwriting Without Tears® program for preschoolers. This is an excellent way to get ready to write! We also have activities for fine motor practice and exploration.
